The 600HP “Splinter” Wooden Supercar Is Something You’ve Never Seen Before

Untitled-2 copy

The Splinter is a two-seater American produced self proclaimed supercar, it is a concept that by the name you may have guessed is made of wood. It was created by a team led by Joe Harmon whom is an industrial designer hailing from North Carolina.

The structure is made from a variety of bent and laminated wood veneers, with bodywork produced from woven veneer. The target weight is 2,500 lb (1,134 kg). And as of October 2008, the vehicle was externally largely complete, although headlights had yet to be fitted. It was just now completed in 2015, and is currently being featured at the Essen Motor Show in Germany which runs  from Nov 27-Dec 6, 2015

With a projected 600 bhp (450 kW) from a twin-supercharged 4.6L V8 engine, and a top speed of 240 mph (386 km/h) that has been predicted. This car just sounds dangerous to me. Although the team has stated that the maximum speed of the vehicle may not be tested.

All in all its a pretty interesting concept, not something I would enjoy driving but maybe someone who had a Jeep Woody at one point and is now having an end of life crisis.
